The wooden bridge to Pulau Papan
A 1.8-kilometer wooden bridge connects Malenge to Pulau Papan, a tiny island occupied entirely by a Bajo stilt village built over water. Walk above clear shallows with village life on both ends — fishing boats below, wooden houses on stilts, children playing on platforms. The bridge itself is the experience, not just a way across.

The vanishing sandbar
At low tide, a white sandbar extends 200-500 meters from the northern coast into shallow turquoise water. It's visible for only 1-2 hours per tidal cycle, sometimes nearly reaching a neighboring islet. Walk the full length surrounded by water on both sides, then watch it disappear as the tide returns.
